Relationship to Diabetes
Parent of person with diabetes
I don't even know where to start. .....my 10 year old daughter has just newly been doing diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, to say my jaw is still on the floor is an understatement! Tonight is our 1st night back home and am to scared to go asleep and head is full overload of information. My daughter is putting me to shame, she's been a superstar taking all this like a trooper I bow down to her.
I've heard it gets easier in time.....I hope so.

A warm welcome sorry to hear about your daughters diagnosis it's often the case the child takes it in there stride while the parent is left with a whole heap of emotion going on. I can't say as I've no personal experience of it but in time it will become just part of the daily routine of testing etc etc. There's a good parents section on here so take a long and see if any posts on there help you.i hope you have a good family network around for support as well as for your daughter but you to x

I can well understand your angst.

Kids are super resilient and your daughter will propel you forward, you will be amazed at the way she copes, many smiles are on the way.

As Steff says there is a parents section which you will find very useful.

You are at the beginning of a steep learning curve, but you can do it. We're all here for you, so ask away! The knowledge and support on this forum is second to none.
 
A warm welcome to our friendly supportive forum Bev & to your daughter too - I'm so sorry to learn of your daughters diagnosis - your reaction is totally understandable - as Bill Stewardson says, children are resilient - don't be surprised but before long she will be educating you as to her Type 1. There is much to learn about her condition so feel free to log in here with your daughter to ask as many questions as you both want. This forum has a wealth of knowledge ready to impart to you and no question is considered silly even tho you may think it is. Do please stay in touch and update us as to your daughters progress. Take care both of you x
