Hello,

Just a quick introduction to myself. I have been reading this forum for just under a month now - you were my only source of an idea as to what I was dealing with!

I was diagnosed type 1 on 18/12/16, and have just today seen my diabetic nurse! Christmas really isn't a great time to get diagnosed!

My HbA1c at diagnosis was 86. I was just in DKA on admission too, with blood in the GP office at 28.8 with Ketones at +++ (whatever that means).

I only went for a cough - its never just a cough though, is it?

Welcome, to the group

Welcome Anthaas.

Glad that you have joined the forum. Any questions are welcome. There is a lot to take on very quickly. As you say Christmas is not a good time to be thinking of managing the condition, but it really is manageable. It just takes a bit of hard work and quite a bit of planning and organisation.

As a newbie to T1 I would recommend a good book to you Type 1 in Children, adolescants and young adults. It is relevant whatever your age (I am way out of the age range in the title!!) and gives very clear explanations of things. It is a little expensive but worth it.

Thanks SB2015 - what I was referring to was the fact that everyone was on annual leave (or the clinics were closed!) - they gave me some basic advice and information and said "see you in the new year!".

The nurse says, according to the levels she has seen, that she thinks I have great control - I think I'm in the honeymoon period! Only time will tell I guess...

Also, thanks for the welcomes everyone.

Edit: I should add I was in hospital for 5 days due to the DKA.

Welcome to the gang Anthaas. We're a friendly bunch, so any questions just ask and one or more of us will try and help.
What type of insulin regime have you been put on?

Hi Anthaas and welcome to the forum 🙂

Welcome to the gang Anthaas. We're a friendly bunch, so any questions just ask and one or more of us will try and help.
What type of insulin regime have you been put on?

I am on a 10:1 ratio of Novorapid (which I take immediately after meals) and 14 units of Lantus each night at 11pm. I've found I have a tendency for my blood sugars to drop between lunch and dinner. My sugars before my evening meal have consistently been lower the before lunch and before bed.

Thanks to everyone else for the welcomes!
