- Relationship to Diabetes
- Type 2
hi . I'm a rather older than I'd like to think about, lady with diabetes and a stupid heart condition. Was born with the heart thingy so have kind of got used to it although it's recently got worse and I'm going to have to stop working because of it, but .... Hey, ho!!! Anyway, was diagnosed with diabetes about 4 years ago just after a major heart op so took a while to realise that it was diabetes causing my symptons and not the heart. Anyway, spent the next few years watching my sugar levels go sky high and doctors handing out more and various pills saying, "we're sure this will work." Last summer, after feeling really rubbish for ages and with sugar levels of 22+ I had a real rant at the doctors and came away with insulin. Took a while to get that right too as they messed around with various ideas before finally I'm on a proper basal bolus regime (Levemir and Novorapid) and finally (mostly) have sugar levels that are not too bad. Last hba1c was 7.2 which, for me, was really good. Anyway - that's me! Oh, and I have 5 grown up kids, 2 dogs, 6 chickens and a husband who is a priest!!! And I was a primary school teacher until this month.
