Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
hi . I'm a rather older than I'd like to think about, lady with diabetes and a stupid heart condition. Was born with the heart thingy so have kind of got used to it although it's recently got worse and I'm going to have to stop working because of it, but .... Hey, ho!!! Anyway, was diagnosed with diabetes about 4 years ago just after a major heart op so took a while to realise that it was diabetes causing my symptons and not the heart. Anyway, spent the next few years watching my sugar levels go sky high and doctors handing out more and various pills saying, "we're sure this will work." Last summer, after feeling really rubbish for ages and with sugar levels of 22+ I had a real rant at the doctors and came away with insulin. Took a while to get that right too as they messed around with various ideas before finally I'm on a proper basal bolus regime (Levemir and Novorapid) and finally (mostly) have sugar levels that are not too bad. Last hba1c was 7.2 which, for me, was really good. Anyway - that's me! Oh, and I have 5 grown up kids, 2 dogs, 6 chickens and a husband who is a priest!!! And I was a primary school teacher until this month.

Hi Mandy, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about the heart problems, and the need to give up working :(

Sounds like you have had quite a battle to get the medication you need! I really don't know why they make it so hard for people to get appropriate medication:( We have quite a few members here who have had similar problems, some still in the process. Sounds like you are finally getting good control now, so well done 🙂 Please let us know if we can help in any way, there is a very broad range of experience here, so whatever the question someone can usually answer it! 🙂

Hello Mandy,

Welcome to the forum, hope you find plenty of good information on here. I've got to be honest, my situation is very different, as I was a type 2, but I was actively trying to stop the doctor and diabetic nurse from over prescribing to me with medicine that I thought was too strong.

Glad you got them to see sense and give you the right medication.

Hi Mandy and welcome to the forum.

Welcome from a fellow T2 with heart problems who's 17 months in. Diagnosed when I was in hospital with an infection. Then with a genetic heart condition and previous silent heart attack. My sister had spaniels the same colours as yours.

Are those two little reprobates I can see CKC's ? I love all spaniels - we had a Golden Cocker when I was little, and my husband had a beautiful Springer bitch until about 1999 when old age, poor sight, deafness and kidney probs saw her take her last trip to the vets. He has absolutely refused since then to entertain having another.
