Type 2
Hello All,

Just been diagnosed with type 2 but not really a shock as grandfather, father, mother and brother all have it.

Some really great info on this site and some useful learnings particularly about diet and nutrition.

The nurse explained there was a six hour programme called the Donovan programme which was very useful, although I can't find anything about this online. Does anyone know about it..?

I need to loose 2 stones, although the metaformin seems to be helping with that both ends! Can anyone recommend a healthy eating plan?

I do cycle 3-4 times a week and have found this beneficial with weight management.

Look forward to joining in and learning about other people's experiences.

Thanks

Hiya Jimbo.

Just thinking that the Donovan prog might be something local - there is a national one for T2 called DESMOND so it's possible they've done their own version of it. What area do you live in - possible someone else from that particular area might know, rather than everyone?

Hi Jimbo - welcome to the forum :D

The best thing to do is to cut down carbs. White foods in general - bread/potatoes/pasta/sugar/ but sadly even though its brown Chocolate🙄 Low carb/High fat seems to be the way forward with no processed food involved 😱 I do have to concede to bacon and the odd 90% meat sausages when having a fry-up.

Do you mean a Desmond course? My nurse mentioned it in passing saying I did not need to go if I didn't want to. It could be useful to see where hidden carbs lie - sneaky little beggers they are! Hide in your wardrobe and overnight sew all your clothes smaller!!!

Ask away with your questions - there are plenty more knowledgeable than me around.

Do you have a testing meter - I couldn't get one so bought my own. Its a useful tool to see if what you are doing is right.

Testing strips are the lowest price around.

Ah ha, that might be the one then, thank you.

LOL Jim - T1 have a course called DAFNE - and I must admit, when I first heard of it I used to think of it as Deirdre !!

Welcome to the forum Jimbo230 🙂

I'm a third generation diabetic as well, although somehow my sisters dodged it!

Welcome to the forum. I went on a steps course (my local equivalent of desmonds) some of it was useful, some of it wasn't as much, most of it I learnt on here and through reading books (recommended on here). This forum is great for help and advice.
