Relationship to Diabetes

New to this, just been looking at DAFNE, i've been a type 1 diabetic for 15 years and ive never heard of DAFNE til tonight...amazing stuff only to realise that my area doesnt have any courses!!! Frustrating!!!! lol
 
hey renata welcome to the forum thats a real shme they have none in your area from what i read on here about them, there really great
 
Hi, thanx... i'm gonna ask at my clinic and see if maybe they're thinking of becoming a dafne centre. I try and control my diabetes, but it usually works the other way around ...

yup sounds familier, fingers crossed there planning on becoming dafne centre
 
If they don't do dafne ask them when they do provide instead. Some areas have their own courses on the same principles which are very good. In theory they should be offering acess to structured education in some form.

Hi Renata, welcome to the forum🙂 Your PCT may not do DAFNE, but they have to provide some sort of equivalent education course. My PCT did a course over 3 mornings which I found invaluable - there were newly diagnosed (like me) and longer term diabetics on it. Ask your DSN and good luck!🙂
 
Thanx aymes, i live in east sussex, ud think it wud have got to us by now!!! But i will ask as u suggest, i like the idea of being educated properly and not just being lectured to...so much to learn so little time??? hahaha thanx, u guys are reallt welcoming x
 
Welcome, one of our member Tom is under Eastbourne teama nd he has done a carb counting course so there is something avaliable, probably not offical DAFNE but the local one, so I would ask your team.

I'm from Eastbourne too. Ask Dr Lipscomb or Dr Bending to put you on the SADIE course. That's the local equivalent. It runs a few times a year. I've been diabetic for fourteen years and I've just done it and it does wonders. You won't look back, trust me.

yes i have done a local version too at Basingstoke and North Hants Hospital, was an excellent course and very helpful...i have only been offered it last year and apparently all newly diagnosed diabetics get offered it now. This is a vast improvement from when i was diagnosed as i wasnt really helped at all, just told to get on with it!
