I am a Type 1 newbie on this forum but not such a newbie as I have been Type I for 51 years, I found out about the forum from INPUT who have been of great assistance to me over the last couple of months.

Hi jusme, welcome to the forum 🙂 Goodness, you must have seen some changes over the years! What insulin regime are you on? I'm guessing INPUT have helped you get a pump?

Hello there - I am on Humalog and Lantus.

Yes I have seen many changes over the years, I can remember 'Soluble' which you had to multiply by 5 and divide by 4 or something similar to find out how much insulin you had to inject twice a day with a glass syringe that you were supposed to boil up to sterilise it and a needle that you used until it got a hook on it!

After quite a long struggle since last May I have finally got my consultant to refer me to a London hospital to see if I can go on a pump.🙂

Hello Jusme, nice to meet you and welcome to the forum. I'm just coming up to the 50 years on insulin so a little behind you 🙂
I use a pump and put bovine insulin in it. 🙂

If I am lucky enough to be put on a pump Sue I will be happy to use Humalog if it goes with the pump as it seems to suit me. I wonder if you get a choice of pumps or are just given what is available (shows you how new I am to all this!)

In theory you should be allowed to choose which pump you have, some commissioning groups though are a tad naughty and contract to buy ex amount of pumps from certain companies for a discount.

Welcome to the forum jusme 🙂

Thank you for your welcome and I hope to learn much more about how diabetes as I go along.

Hiya Jusme and welcome.🙂 Good luck getting a pump.

Hiya!

Lagging behind you and Sue at 42.5 years. Boiling up syringes and pee. Ah, memories are made of this .... ROFL.

I managed to get a pump 4 years ago - am due for a replacement soon this year.

The very best of luck with that!

Come on Jenny, wake up in the back row you are lagging behind :D

I know, I'll be 72 when I can apply for me Nabarro medal - and I've never had a medal. If I'd only been diagnose das a child I'd have got it sooner.

I always lose out, me. 😡

Still - I think I was lucky having decided that Mars bars weren't really necessary years before I was diagnosed and HAD to give them and Crunchies etc up.

And after I had the Caramac craving (I'd feel the need to eat 2 on the bus journey home from work every day, from about the end of June 1972 - I wonder why that was ROFLMAO) (oh and I was losing weight Tee Hee) - I felt exceedingly ill the next time I saw one for sale after that episode!

So on balance, I'm more than happy with my timing, thanks!
