Hi to everyone i am new to all this and quickly going through the recipes section to see if there is anything good to cook. There appears to be some confusion on my part i think. Having read a few posts on the food threads, i thought i had to stear clear of starchy food such a s potatoes, rice, pasta and bread but some people seem to eat them.😱

People's tolerances to different foods can vary quite a lot. It's important to discover what your own particular tolerances are so you know what items you can include, and what you should exclude (or reduce in portion size) in your own diet. Generally, it's best not to overload yourself with carbs, as these are what will raise your blood sugar levels the most. Some carbs are better than others i.e. they digest more slowly and have a gentler effect on levels over a longer period of time.

Thanks just read about testing at fasting, 1 hour and two hours. The problem i have is my fasting is no where near 5.5 its more like 6.8

That's not too bad. Normally, a couple of readings above 7.0 are used for a diagnosis of diabetes, and you are below that so it looks like things have been caught early 🙂

Whatever Type we are - every person is different as Northie said! And the forum tries to cater for all of us - which is no mean feat.

The main thing is we all have to watch what carbs we eat, because we all have a problem with them to a greater or lesser degree and only you and your meter, can work out between you - what your individual tolerance for them happens to be.

Think of it as having donned either the hat of David Livingstone or Dora the Explorer (whichever suits you - or the task in hand - better today) and embark on your voyage of discovery with yes, some caution - but with enjoyment and hope on the journey - and excitement when you reach that waterfall !

Good luck!

Dora (aka Jenny)

Trophywench I love the idea of being Dora the Explorer the explorer or Livingstone, although I can't thank you for giving me the Dora the explorer theme tune as an ear worm...

OOoh, sorry got carried away, welcome sparklyfarm 🙂
