Fairly newly diagnosed in June with fasting blood glucose of 11.3! Shock horror.

Fairly dismissive GP who just told me to take one Metformin per day and wait till I've seen the diabetic nurse who will give me more information!

Decided to take my life into my own hands and after about six days of taking the meds, and forgetting a couple of times. With support of wife have gone down the diet (and exercise) route and I'm now getting fasting blood glucose readings of under 6 on a regular basis, so I think I'm heading in the right direction.

Went to helpful DESMOND day yesterday, but I was aware of most of what I heard. Shocked at others' attitude to their diabetes really. Not engaged at all. Worrying.

Just waiting for my HbA1C reading to catch up! Fallen from 101 to 73 in last two months, so I think I'm on the right track.

Hi Phillb, welcome to the forum 🙂 Well done, sounds like you are really getting to grips with things! If we can help in any way, please let us know 🙂

Hi Phil and welcome.

Sounds like you're really making good progress. My humble and newbie view is that medication helps but you need to look at diet and exercise also for the full holistic approach to managing diabetes.

I'm sure one of our resident experts will be along shortly with much better advise than I have 🙂

Welcome PhillB. Sounds like you've done very well so far, there's loads of good folk here with lots of good advice 🙂
