Hi, my name is Leigh and I was diagnosed about 20 years ago.

I'm currently have issues with my control, this seems to happen every 6-12months over the last 5 years and I've been told to consider a pump.

I'm also planning my Christmas wedding, dealing with my other half changing jobs and the usual family drama's.

I've never thought about joining a support site, however I've done DAFNE and a local carb counting course which I got a lot out of. It was nice knowing I wasn't alone!

Thanks Leigh

Welcome to the forum 🙂

I'd definitely recommend a pump, it was life changing for my son!

Hiya Leigh and welcome 🙂

Hi there Leigh, welcome to the forum. I would consider a pump if I were you and having issues with control. I have heard so many people say how a pump has changed their life, I was never offered one and really wish I had been. Congratulations on your wedding, it is the most stressful time isn't it ? But worth it all on the day....Tintin 🙂

Hello and welcome Leigh 🙂

I'd say definitely give using a pump a go, once you get used to it and get all the pump settings sorted I'm sure you won't look back. If you really don't like using it then you always have the option of going back to MDI.

I have used a pump for the last 12 years and it has made my life infinitely safer and given me so much better and stable control.

Hiya Leigh

Well - you may have hit the nail on the head when you said 'every 6-12 months'.

Insulin doses (mainly our basal insulin) do need changing every so often and it's best to get used to it on MDI (or basal/bolus whatever you call it in your neck of the woods) because it certainly happens on a pump, just it's infinitely more adjustable.

Or it might be that either the basal insulin doesn't have the right profile for you or that you need to split the dose or just alter the timing.

Or - I the case of most of us pumpers (so that leads me to think - most likely almost everybody who is T1) our body's basal needs don't actually match the actions of any of the basal insulins on offer, LOL

Soooo - how long has it been since you did a full basal test for 24 hours? (You don't do the full 24 hours all at once, you spread it out over several days)

Here's how -

Welcome Leigh. Pumps are much more adjustable to what you are up to. I adore missing my dinner. Busy at work & normally not bothered that time of day (less basal, temp basal) & every ones is happy 🙂
