Just to introduce myself.

My name is Ola, I am 37 and I was diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes Oct 25 2009.
So I guess I am the new young man here.

Hello to all on this forum

😎

Hi Ola, welcome to the forum!🙂 Goodness - very new to it then? What insulin are you on? You must have been being diagnosed whilst I was running the Great South Run (for JDRF - to help find the cure!)🙂

Welcome aboard OlaIsm hope you are coping okay and I hope you stick around this place it has helped me no end I'm sure it will you.

Take care

Rossi🙂

Thank you for the warm welcome.
@Northerner, I am currently on NovoRapid and Levemir. HOw was the run?
@Rossi_mac, I am coping ok, and will be around for the foreseeable future

Hi Ola, the run was great - some jelly babies at 7 miles helped me through to the end! Managed to raise over ?750 for JDRF!🙂 I'm on novorapid and lantus. I was on fixed doses for the first few weeks after diagnosis, with regular contact from my DSN to make adjustments to the doses. Then I went on a short education course which taught me to carb count (and many other things!) and it really made things much more flexible with much better control. I'd recommend you speak to your DSN about the possibility of a course - I think all PCTs have to provide something like DAFNE or similar, although DAFNE can have a long waiting list.

In the meantime, you might want to take a look at Bournemouth Un's online carb-counting course at www.bdec-e-learning.com

Might prompt a few questions you can put to your DSN. Good luck!🙂

Hi Ola and welcome to the site.

Feel free to ask anything and the wealth of experience on the site should be of alot of help to you. It most certainly has been to me.

All the best,

Tom

Hi Ola, welcome to the forum. Hope you've had time to browse around the boards and see the kind of thing that goes on here. You never need to be left wondering about anything once you're a member here, ask away and there's always someone who can help and/or advise you.

xx

@Northerner

Went on the Carb Counting Course yesterday, but will not be able to start carb counting until they, or should I say until I get my Blood Sugar Level below 10.
Had a good day today as it stayed below 9.5 all day today, will watch it over the next few days and then ask DSN if I can start.

All in all, I have no worries

I guess they are trying to get your insulin doses to a certain level before giving you free rein, although it does seem a little odd to teach you to carb count and then not let you apply it to help reduce your levels! Are none of your readings below 9.5 then? When are you taking them? Hope all goes well - let us know!🙂
