Hi

Last week, I was told I had Type 1 This has come as a bit of a shock as I was only diagnosed with Addisons Disease 12 weeks ago (even thought they come hand in hand). It makes sense now; why I could not return to ' my old self', however, I currently feel very overwhelmed with everything that is going on

Kind regards
Helen

Welcome to the forum, bagpuss40 / Helen.

Do ask anything you'd like to know - we'll try to help. I'm sure you'll be feeling more like your old self soon, with proper treatment.

Hi Helen, welcome to the forum 🙂 Very sorry to hear about your diagnosis :( It's natural to feel overwhelmed, there is so much to take in. Try to take things slowly. What insulin regime are you on? I would highly recommend getting a copy of Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young People by Ragnar Hanas - it ought to be issued to everyone at diagnosis and is not, as the title suggests, just for children and young people - I found it indispensable and I was diagnosed aged 49! 🙂

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have - nothing is considered 'silly', so if it is troubling or confusing you, then please ask and we will try to help. We also have members with experience of Addison's also, so hopefully if you have any questions about that we will also be able to help.

Hello Helen and welcome to the forum.
I also have type 1 diabetes and Addison's disease. Addison's is autoimmune as well as type 1 diabetes but very few actually develope Addison's as an added bonus.
I've been type 1 for almost 49 years but only had Addison's for about 13 years.

Take one day at a time and you will be fine. Members will help you as much as you need or want. It's very hard not to have info overload to start with :(

Hi Bagpuss ! I love the names people pick ! Welcome to the forum 🙂 You sound like you have a lot to sort !

Hi Bagpuss (loved that show 😱), not a T1 myself (my son is) but I saw you're from Northamptonshire which isn't a million miles away. Hope you're getting some good care where you live. My son goes to MK. This forum is great for support and tips, sorry you have 2 things to contend with but you'll get lots of help on here so fire away with questions.
Best wishes
