Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
I have only just joined on here.

I have had Type 1 Diabetes for nearly 30 years. I was 11 nearly 12 when I was told I have it. My Dad is also Diabetic.

I also suffer a lot of mental health problems which I am having therapy for.
The main reason for these is due to my Diabetes, how I wasn't allowed to talk about it at home and how I struggled through secondary school and life.

I am hoping to go on an Insulin pump next year as I have good control but am going through an early menopause and have lost all warning signs of hypos.

I hope I can make some new friends here as I have no friends with Diabetes and maybe help some people.

There is alot more I could write but I don't want to bore people on my first post!

Hi "Piginhappy" Love the name, put a smile on me face ! Well done for posting on site it is a good place 🙂

Welcome to the forum, pigginhappy.
There's a Pump section of this forum, which may be particularly useful to you.

Hi pigginhappy, welcome to the forum. Like you I have had diabetes for a few years 🙂 Hope your pump comes sooner rather than later for you.

Welcome from me too!

Well - talk about your diabetes NOW then - it's never too soon or too late. There's a good many of us that could have done with forums like this years ago, so get started. It's v cathartic to tell your story, most especially when you commit it to writing, I've found ! - and so much easier to do when you know you have an empathetic and non-judgmental readership.

Are you - like me - living surrounded by all things Pig? I love em in every form - a friend once sent me a postcard from a mountainous region in France where the Wild Boar (Sanglier) are rife. A picture of a piglet - they are just so sweet, like little hairy humbugs with a leg at each corner.

On the rear the printed legend said what it was and added that they 'made excellent charcuterie and roasts.' 🙂

All it said in her handwriting apart from our address was, 'Saw this and thought of You-hoo'. :D

Welcome to the forum pigginhappy 🙂

Welcome! I am rather partial to piglets and have many tea towels/pictures and various things that display them!

Welcome to the forum 🙂 Another pig fan here - I used to go to the annual Pig And Poultry Fair at Stoneleigh and pose as a pig farmer, and had a subscription to 'International Pig Topics'. Erm, sorry, that might make me sound a bit weird...! 😉 :D

I must admit that the first thing that popped into my mind was the Piggin collection of ceramic figures which I have a few of 🙂

And me! Make me giggle every time I dust the ruddy things, very intricate, some of em and you can't just lob em in the washing up bowl easily and give them a good wash behind their ears etc, cos of the baize on their bottoms!

So many PIG fans.:D

Yes I love love love anything pig. I have a huge collection of piggin pigs. The only thing I don't like is eating pig.

Thank you for all the welcomes.🙂

Welcome to the forum Pigginhappy. I've just gone onto the pump after 41 years of diabetes and the pump is brilliant:D

Hi Pigginhappy

The changeover was very straightforward. The pump will take lots of tweaking and my fingers are sore with tests but overall a very smooth process. I'm extremely happy with my pump

I beat Amanda, it was nearly 39 years when I got mine, and I've been badgering her unremittingly since before that, to get one!

It's by no means an instant solution to anything, but I realise for all those years previously I was just bashing my diabetes over the head with the equivalent of a lumphammer - whereas a pump is the nearest thing available at the moment to a sonic screwdriver, in comparison.

I have to admit that if it wasn't for Trophywench I probably wouldn't have gone for the pump. a massive thank you TW 🙂
