Hello. I am deegee, nearly 65, Type 1 for 24 years. I am new to carb counting and looking for any information which will help me. Thanks 🙂

Hi deegee, welcome to the forum 🙂 Have you been on a DAFNE course, or similar? What insulin regime are you on? There are some useful books you can get to help with carb counting, in particular Carbs & Cals: A Visual Guide to Carbohydrate & Calorie Counting for People with Diabetes which has lots of high quality pictures of common foods to help you estimate carb content.

A lot of people also use the Collins Gem - Carb Counter for carb values 🙂

Is there anything in particular you would like to know?

Hi Deegee, just shows you, us 'old hands' can still learn a thing or two!

Although when I was diagnosed we had 'Exchanges' consisting of 10g carbs ever since the newer insulins came out it's all been based on guesswork and some people are better at that than I ever was. So this 'new' round of carb-counting training was brilliant for me - I now have 'rules' to calculate my doses and corrections, rules to check whether my basal insulin is doing what it needs to, exactly when it needs to do it - and what to adjust if it isn't. Fantastic.

If you haven't been offered an actual formal course, there is an online one, so shout up if you want to have a go at that.

hello deegee, welcome aboard, I'm 68, so your still a youngster.:D

Hi deegee. Welcome 🙂

I'm nowhere near 65 but I promise I won't gloat! :D
