Just got results of initial tests yesterday and have had some more blood taken to determine levels or something then have to return to Doc to get appropriate meds. It was a lot of info to take in but he says I have high sugar and high cholesterol and is going to give me meds to bring both of them down. Apparently my blood pressure is normal though.
Doing some research on internet and found this forum.
I love Bigmacs and Thickshakes, although I don't have them often they are one of the things I will miss, haven't looked into food too closely yet but my doctor's surgery seem pretty switched on, I will be seeing doc as soon as test results are back and apparently they have a practice nurse to advise on diet etc. I really don't know where to start but it seems others manage it so I will try not to let it make too big a difference to my life. I have a wonderful supportive and caring wife who will help me get on with it.
I have just turned 58 btw
Thanks for the welcome and I will try to contribute to the forum if I can. The one thing I am good at is IT so I will be looking at any ways computers can help me in although as yet I have no idea what kind of actions I need to take in relation to blood checks, exercise etc. Good to know there is an active community out there
Hi Davmii, welcome to the forum 🙂 I would suggest having a read of Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter, and also get a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker - these will give you a good understanding of diabetes, what to expect and how to manage it well 🙂
Hi Davii, welcome aboard, its a bit of a shock when first diagnosed, well it was for me, but in time you will soon get it all sorted and peeps often say they feel better for it , I know I certainly do.
Thanks all for the welcomes, I will be doing a lot of reading from the links given on here I think. It was not too much of a shock for me to find out I have diabetes and it explained some of the symptoms I have had for over a year. like dry mouth, constant thirst and unexplained rashes. I have always been the type of person who puts symptoms down to flu, colds or just getting old so rarely go to doctors but glad I did this time (for a nasty rash) so now I can manage my high cholesterol and blood sugar and get healthy and fit
