Hello Marier and welcome to the forums.

I hope you find the forums useful.

If you look around you will see that we have a area for pumpers - so if you are considering a pump - you could ask questions there and see if anyone could help you with your queries.

Hi Marie. Welcome 🙂

How is your control at the moment ?

Have they explained what having a pump would entail ? 🙂

Rob

Hi Marie

I've been a diabetic a bit longer than you, and at the tender age of 61 last year - I got my pump.

It's a learning curve alright*, so you have to make your mind up on that - but would I give it back now? - No I would not!

* some of the things you might think you know about your own diabetes, turn out not to be true - because sometimes it isn't your diabetes you know at all, it's just that you know what your D does when paired with this or that long-acting insulin. Remove the long-acting insulin and what you are left with is The Truth ! So you then have to adjust your pump to respond to The Truth. Which is not all that hard, just different. It's certainly interesting, I'll say that!

Hi Marier,
welcome to the forum.
Pumps are great as long as you are prepared to do the work involved. To start with they are not a walk in the park, end result though is a fantastic quality of life.
I'm sure you would not have had a pump mentioned to you if there was any concern what so ever about infection. 🙂
The fact the question was asked "would you consider a pump"? then yes you are being offered a pump. 🙂 So do your own research and ask all the questions you want and need to ask.
Your team obviously thinks you are a good candidate for a pump 🙂

Hi Deffo prepared to do work and thank to everyone for helping me understand better. I do all my own BG and count carbs so good i think 🙂
I will ask few more questions regarding if any one has had many probs with Infection but Yes your right in saying my Diabetes Team must think that i am a good candidate for a Pump

novorapidboi26 Why do you think its strange people being offerd a pump ?????

Pumps are notoriously hard to get funding for in certain areas, especially most parts of Scotland.

It's very much a postcode lottery as to whether your clinic is pro-pump or not so pro-pump. It is in theory a level playign field but if your DSN/consultant are not very experienced with pumps, then you have a less than equal chance of getting one.

The NHS criteria are also quite tight, although they can be adjusted on an individual basis.
