Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello

Just be diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on friday. Went to the local surgery for a check up, who sent me to nearest hospital as glucose level was 28.4! Just spent the weekend in hospital getting my level down. I was released last night; and I'm trying to get used to everything that needs doing. So much to take in!

Just wanted to say hello

Welcome to the forum Stacy 🙂

Hopefully your levels are coming down for you! How was the support on being released from hospital? A few of the members here have had problems with that.

Hi Stacy. Welcome 🙂

Sorry to hear you've joined the club. It's not so bad once you get used to it.

What have they sent you home with and how are you being treated at the moment (ie. insulins, how often and are you carb counting) ?

Rob

Hi Stacy, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis - everything must be a bit overwhelming and confusing at the moment, and possibly a little scary. We will try our best to help, so don't be afraid to ask about anything that is worrying or confusing you.

Have a look at the links in our Useful links thread. You might be interested in getting a support and information pack for people with a recent diagnosis of type 1 diabetes from JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) - all free - and I would highly recommend getting hold of a copy of Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults by Ragnar Hanas. It will explain practically everything you need to know about living with Type 1, covering all topics and a very valuable reference in the months and years to come 🙂

What sort of insulin are you on?

Hi Stacy and welcome to the forums. You must be in a state of turmoil right now - wondering what the future has in store.

Ask any questions that you might have and someone will try and help you out.

Sorry to hear you have been diagnosed Stacey.

Good news is there's never been a better time to have T1 diabetes. Modern treatment methods and approaches mean it's more possible than ever to live a {relatively} normal life and avoid developing any nasty complications.

Have a good look around and ask any questions as they crop up. Nothing will be thought of as too obvious. If you get a bit befuddled by all us long-term D types using abbreviations for *everything* check out the 'abbreviations' thread too:

Hi Stacey, welcome aboard, you must feel a bit lost I imagine, but you will get lots of support and help here as and when you need it.🙂

welcome to the forum x
