Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi everyone, have just discovered this forum and am deeply heartened by the support and humour on here.

I have been diagnosed Type 2 for a little over two years and have today had my best review for bloods , BP, weight etc. - everything down - for a long time. So I felt really good feeling that I had finally got a handle on this condition. Then came the bombshell that I have neuropathy in my toes and possibly some in my legs and even some Autonomic neuropathy!!
I thought you had to be a diabetic for many, many years and have rubbish glucose control so how have I got so bad so quickly?

I feel shellshocked and like all my efforts in controlling this disease have been a waste of time.

Need to get back my positive thinking and carry on x

Hello and Welcome to the forum Lizc , if you want to know anything or just fancy a chat there is always someone about :D:D

Hi and welcome to the site.

I can really relate to how you feel, i was diagnosed with some painful neuropathy at the end of last year after 9 years of pretty much good control. I was upset and angry actually. It was like I had done my part and the other end of the deal hadn't been kept.

I guess it's one of those things though, some people have rubbish control and no complications and others great control and get them. I'd say what you have done is certainly not a waste of time, it will have improved day to day how you feel. So well done on improving all your numbers and please continue to work at it, as I know there may be a temptation to say **** it.

there is plenty of support here and I hope you find it useful

Hi Lizc, and welcome!

I remember seeing a tv programme a while ago where someone was being asked about diabetic complications. The doctor said it's like anything else really, some people are lucky and don't have any problems in spite of themselves, others do present with problems despite looking after themselves. It's a bit like those people who smoke 60 a day for 50 years and never have problems, I suppose!

The thing to bear in mind is that, if you weren't looking after yourself properly, the problems could be much worse. Not much consolation, I know, but you have done well to get all your numbers down, and continuing to do that will give you the best chance of limiting the effects of the complications.

Thanks guys. You have really helped me put things back in perspective because you were so right about being upset and angry.... and yes i do feel like saying **** it.

I knew this would be a good place xx

Hi and welcome.
Stick to your regime. Sounds as if you've been well controlled.
Well done.
As has been said, neuropathy and retinopathy are 'bad luck' results for many well discipined diabetics.
Abandon ship and you could have worse complications.

Hi Liz and welcome. Stick with it as everyone says, regardless of the temptation. You've come to the right place for support, a rant and the best advice in the world.

Hello & welcome Liz

Hi lizc,

Nice to have you on the forum. Sounds like you time since diagnosis has been hard work and the recent extention of problems really bloody frustrating, I can sympathise on how unfair that is. Like what Kojack says though, imagine had you not have worked this hard how that could have been a very different story. I hope these complications dont get too bad for you.

The good thing is you are here which means at the end of the day you care about your diabetes! You are just human like the rest of us who have it, get abit down, have a complete rant and rage and scream, get really ****** off and then after letting off all that steam we get back on the horse and carry on!......perhaps because we have to, but its all in the cycle of what we have to go through.

You are probably much stronger than you realise. I hope you get some positive results soon and enjoy the suppport (and madness!) of this forum. Theres lots of love here and room for another to share it with!

All my best,
Lou
