Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi,

I joined this forum yesterday. I live in the South Manchester area and was diagnosed as having type 2 a couple of weeks ago. I'm in the process of learning as much as possible about the condition and have been trying to make changes for the better by diet rather than tablets. Exercise is difficult for me as I also have a heart condition and extensive arthritis so tablets for the diabetes will come sooner rather than later. My Wife is also doing a lot of reading on the subject to support me and she has also joined this forum so I expect she will introduce herself later. Yours in friendship, Steve.

Hi Steve, welcome to the forum! There's a lot of improvements you can make with diet, no doubt you will get to see a dietician who will advise you.🙂

welcome

welcome to this great site. Im new to this as well, but im sure like me you will find it a great help

Thanks

Thanks very much everyone. It's good to know that I have people I can ask for advice. Being rather too inactive and coupled with the fact that my mother also had type 2 gave me an idea that I would head the same way at some point but actually being told I have it was still a bit of a shock. Thanks again. Steve.

Hi

Hi Mike and thanks,

What made the diagnosis a little odd was that I went to Warrington hospital for an eye appointment and came out with a diagnosed eye condition and diabetes. While there they did a finger blood test as a matter of routine and told me I had type two but to go to my GP for a full set of fasting bloods etc. The GP then said that the levels had been raised over a few past blood tests for my heart and she did another and declared me diabetic.

I blame the hospital for giving it to me but at least it was free.

I also have something with my liver which she says is related to the diabetes which I am having a scan for on thursday.

Hi Julie,

I was given the test kit and for a week or so did it whenever I had a meal then worked out from that a very very basic food list now we are adding to it a bit at a time. I'm finding that I am eating a lot less than I used to and I'm feeling a lot better. I stopped all my added sugar and I'm sure I went through some kind of withdrawal but happier now ... any tricks you find let me know.

Hi Steve
Welcome to the clan 🙂
I feel like asking for my own armchair here.
It's good to know you can talk to some people that have the same diagnosis
You & your wife will be fine here any questions just ask away.

Hello Dave and Sweetsatin.

You are all a good bunch on here.

If I have to have something then I'm glad its something like this that has brought me into contact with such nice, young, attractive and educated people like good myself.

I've had arthritis for several years but that only brought me into contact with older people. I have heart failure & angina but again that is such a 'yesterday's' illness now I have diabetes .. I still have the other stuff, this was an addition not a swap.

Thanks for being there you lot.
