Hi Drew, welcome to the forum
🙂 Sorry to hear about the confusion about your diagnosis - how were you diagnosed and how long ago? It's not unheard of for people to get the wrong diagnosis and there are tests that can be done to clarify what Type you are. What insulin regime are you on? About 20% of people with Type 2 are not overweight when diagnosed, and often there is a strong genetic link - do you have other family members who have diabetes?
Sorry for all the questions!
🙂 You're certainly not alone with your diabetes here, so I'm glad you have found us. Diabetes can be a very isolating illness, particularly with all the negative campaigning there is about it being a 'lifestyle' disease, but here you'll get none of that nonsense - no-one deserves to have diabetes.
I would recommend having a look at the
'Useful Links' thread for some suggestions for good reading. I'm presuming that, since you are on insulin, you are getting test strips prescribed by your doctor? Testing is the best tool we have to help us manage our blood sugars and find out the best and worst foods for us as individuals (since tolerances to certain foods can vary).
Please feel free to ask us anything you are unsure of - there are hundreds of people with lots of experience and knowledge who will be happy to help and support you!
🙂
