Hi,
Just thought I'd introduce myself! I've had type 1 for 15 years, been on a pump for 2 and i love it (my pump not diabetes🙂) I don't know anyone else with diabetes so am looking forward to talking to people who know what its like to deal with it!

Hi Elliebug

Good to have you here. Take a look around and get stuck in!

Welcome to the forum elliebug 🙂 x

Hi elliebug, welcome to the forum 🙂 You've just made friends with hundreds of people with diabetes! :D We have a lot of fellow pumpers here too, so you can talk your weird language to them (I'm not a pumper!) and they'll understand! What pump do you have, and has it got a name?

i have an animas 2020 in pink, it doesn't have a name but is refered to as pumpy!! or that @*&^%$ thing by my OH when it attacks him in the night!:D

Welcome to the forum 🙂 Love your name🙂

As others have already said, you've joined a caring and supportive community where you have access to loads of peeps in a similar position to yourself.
Looking forward to hearing more from you 😉

Hi Ellie welcome to the forum!

I've been t1 for 20 years and have just secured funding for a pump, I'll also be going for Animas (although I currently borrow a pump from my hospital which is a Medtronic).

hi,
i just read your yay post! its very exciting:D, i feel lucky that it only took 9 months after i asked for a pump to get one! although it did take 3 years to get on a DAFNE course which you have to do before you're allowed one here. feel free to message me with any questions, most importantly, which colour are you getting?!

I think we've talked about this somewhere else?? But going on DAFNE is NOT a requirement of you going on a pump - they may think that this is policy at your hospital, but it is not the law, and you'd be very welcome to challenge them saying that to anyone else they tell it to!

I think I will go for black 🙂

black is very grown up!!!
to be honest, DAFNE was helpful, whilst i thought i was good at carb counting i wasn't so i would have found the pump mega difficult if i hadn't done the course so i can sort of see why they like you to do it first. i think my first referal to the course may have got lost as once i'd emailed the person in charge and said i had been waiting over 2 years i would have been on the next course, i was being a good student and waited a few months to get on one in my holidays!

I see your point about DAFNE being really good - but THREE YEARS is a totally unacceptable waiting list, if they are forcing people to wait for a pump that long. It's absolutely disgusting to be perfectly honest - I'm sure Lesley at INPUT would love to hear about this.

They should have got you in seeing a dietitian if you weren't confident about carb counting, not waiting 3 years to get access to something you need.

i think im the exception not the rule, no one else waited that long and once i got the go ahead for the pump it was 2 maybe 3 months till i was pumping.

Phew! It's pretty neglectful that they let you go 3 years - agreeing that you needed a pump - without giving you access to the resources you need (ie a dietitian).

i didn't even ask for a pump till after dafne, never thought for a second i'd get one!!! i think my hypo brian might mean i've not quite said what i meant to!!! oops, cheesecake incoming so hopefully that will help!!
