Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I'm a recently diagnosed Type "Yet To Be Determined" diabetic - but most likely Type 1.

My father and his (only) brother are both Type 1, as was my grandfather who died before I was born. My father suspects his grandfather also was a diabetic. I'm almost the same age as my father when he was diagnosed too.

Due to the above, I wasn't greatly shocked when the Dr told me that I had diabetes.

My biggest challenge will be making the time to do more exercise. I'm an engineer by profession - and sit at the computer for most the day. In the evenings I like to play with my almost 2 year old.

I'm an occasional player of Second Life (yes I did notice the group, shame the Diabetes UK office seems to have vanished) and an avid fan of Motorsport.

Hi Mark. Welcome 🙂

You didn't stand much chance really did you ? 🙄

Exercise-wise, could you fit in a half hour walk at lunch times or even a bit of rough and tumble with your toddler ?

Most of my career was at a PC in engineering too so I know the problems of not being able to get the blood flowing.

Hi Mark

Welcome aboard
Just passing so thought I'd say hi. I'm a fairly recent type 2 so I'm sure someone with better info than me will be along shortly!!

Hi and a warm welcome to the forum....

yes, I'm being sent to a consultant to work out exactly what type I am. Although given how slow my local PCT moves, I'm expecting that to take a few months!

In the mean time I'm monitoring my blood sugar levels to see if a change of diet and more exercise will bring them down a bit. My first reading at the start was 14.5

What worries the diabetic nurse is that my body will completely stop producing insulin and my blood sugar will go through the roof.

Welcome to the forum Mark 🙂

Hopefully the consultant will be able to help you and speed things up a little!

hi Mark.... welcome to the forum 🙂

Welcome to the forum Mark,

I guess you need to keep a close eye on your levels and if they go completely haywire, well, you'll know what to do!

Anyway, I hope you get the full diagnosis quickly.

Andy 🙂

Hi Mark and welcome 🙂

Hi Mark and welcome.

You sound like you have a similar existence to me - what is your perferred form of screaming engine? I started off following bikes, then got into F1 before rejoining MotoGP/WSBK/BSBK fans a couple of years ago, much to the OH's annoyance 🙂

Fingers crossed your local PCT get moving before your blood sugars do!

I'm pretty open to all Motor Sports 🙂

Mostly I watched F1, WRC and MotoGP as thery were on the free to air channels. My wife likes WRC and MotoGP but finds F1 sleep inducing.

But we recently swapped our expensive BT Broadband for only slightly more expensive Sky - so I'm looking forward to watching some LeMans, some IRC and anything else my wife lets me.

Unfortunately it seems they don't screen Tractor Pulling anymore.

I'm suspecting that my PCT will have to get going soon - since I started monitoring I haven't dropped below 9😱 and I've spiked up to 16.
