Type 1
Hi everyone, new here and have never been on a forum before. Just looking for others with Type 1 who understand the daily fun of T1. Don't know too many others with T1 so hoping I can learn from others and pick up good tips along the way, and help others if I can. Thanks

Hi and welcome from me too.

Would you like to tell us a bit about how long you have been diagnosed and how you currently manage your Type 1?
Which insulin(s) you use, pump or pens and presumably you have a CGM.... Libre or Dexcom or perhaps a specific pump one if you are on a pump?

The forum is a really great place to compare notes with others who face the same challenges and learn tips and tricks to deal with the various difficulties that diabetes throws up. It literally is a gold mine of practical experience, so I am sure you will benefit from being here. Ask away with any questions or particular problems you are having.

Welcome @Ryan_80
Lovely to have you on board.
Is there anything in particular that you are after tips on or just here to join the conversation (which is just as cool)?

You will find that some members appear to ask your life history. Feel free to share as much or as little as you want. Their enthusiasm is to be able to provide relevant advice.
My approach has always been to offer background information when it is relevant to my question (or answer) but then I am quite a private person.
in other words, share as little or as much as you want regardless of the number and frequency of questions posed.

Oh and "Fun of T1"? Do you have any T1 jokes? :D

Hi @Ryan_80 and a very warm welcome from me and glad you've joined us 🙂. I had never been on a Forum before until I joined here a couple of months ago despite the fact I've had Diabetes for many years! You will find there are lots of friendly members with Type 1 who can share their experiences and provide support; they understand what it's like to live with the condition.....

Hey everyone, thanks for the welcome. I've all the responses so I'll give some background. I was diagnosed later in life at 31. So that has been a really interesting journey in and of itself. I was actually misdiagnosed as type 2 in the US for the first two years and then when I moved to the UK. So thankful they figured that out. I have been using an insulin pen since 2013 and I am actually getting my first pump next week which is making me a bit nervous to be honest. It's the tandem tslim and it will be working with my dexcom g7. Still feel as though I'm trying to get a grip on things and according to my consultant I'm not doing as bad as I feel like I'm doing. But I'm sure everyone knows the feeling. Not sure what else to include, just thankful for the welcome.

Hello and thanks for the welcome. Don't really have any T1 jokes but according to my family when I'm having a hypo everything gets...interesting. They call it my hypo humour.

Hiya, I had an appointment with the Diabetic consultant this week and TBH was not looking forward to it as I felt my control has been a bit up and down the last few months. However he said the HBa1c could do with a little improvement but on the whole I wasn't actually doing too badly so not what I was expecting 🙂. I asked about the possibility of have a pump but unfortunately it's not an option for me owing to budget restrictions in my area :(. It would be great to hear how you get on with it, hopefully I can get one in the future ...

Welcome to the forum @Ryan_80

Glad you have joined us! I hope you find exchanging experiences with others as helpful as I did when I first gingerly started of forums a few decades ago. I think I learned more in the first year, than I had in the previous dozen years of annual reviews. Plus it was amazing to ask questions, swap frustrations, and get hints, tips, and be able to share Diabetes Genius moments with other folks who just ‘got it’. 🙂
