Hello

I’m new here and just want to introduce myself. My name is Irene I’m 59 years old and live in Glasgow.
I was diagnosed about 6 months ago and still learning about diabetes. I think I was in denial at the beginning. I’m more positive now and I know that I need to approach it in a different way. I was just looking at the future symptoms and getting down, but it doesn’t have to be like that.
I’m glad I found this page and look forward to learning more.

Hello Irene and welcome to the forum. I was also diagnosed just over 6 months ago but I am a few years older than you. I am finding this forum really helpful and supportive. The experiences of so many people living with diabetes means that you will find similar issues to your own. We all have to go through a process of coming to terms with having diabetes and the inevitable lifestyle changes it involves. If you are happy to share it helps to provide a bit of information about yourself. What type of diabetes you were diagnosed with. What your HbA1c reading was any medication or diet advice you have been given. This puts any questions you have into context. Feel free to ask any questions. I still do as I am still in the process of getting blood sugars under control. Unfortunately a lot of HCPs don't have the time or resources to give you all the information you need. There is so much experience here of living with diabetes and any long term complications. Wishing you all the best.

Welcome to the forum @amfibion

Looks like you are posting from Spain - are you there on holiday?

Good to hear you are finding out more about your diabetes, and no longer in denial. 🙂

Welcome Irene! I live in Scotland too (I moved from England five years ago) and I find that diabetes care in Scotland is better generally than in England.

Hi @amfibion and welcome!

I'm sorry about your diagnosis, it can definitely be overwhelming at first, but it's good that you're overturning this. Have a read around the forum - there's plenty of people in the same boat so to say, and they share different advice, ideas and habits that have helped them in managing their diabetes better. If you'll have any questions at all - do ask! And greetings to you from Aberdeen!
