I would like to introduce myself as a new member having a particular interest in the Pumping & Technology forum. I have had T1 diabetes for 31 years and am now well into my 80’s.

I was on a Medronics pump for 4 years, then an Omnipod Dash for a further four - in both cases using the Freestyle Libre for BG manual inputs. Six months ago I changed to the Omnipod 5 Hybrid Closed Loop system with Dexcom G6. Insulet (manufacturers of Omnipod) are concerned to protect their intellectual property and have been unwilling to release full details of their algorithm. Nonetheless, as a physicist and mathematician, I have studied the published scientific papers and undertaken a detailed analysis of the OP5 algorithm for comparison with my personal data and have, perhaps, a unique pretty detailed understanding of how Omnipod 5 works. It uses data totally differently from the Dash and there are a number of misconceptions about this. I am willing to share my knowledge, if desired, but wish to avoid any issues that could arise if my technical advice sometimes appears to differ from that given by other members.

Welcome to the forum @Mainsail

All the different algorithms I have lived with seem to have differences in how they respond to the data they receive, and the nature, speed, and magnitude of their response. Along with differences in which factors they take into account which are user-editable.

There seems to be a trick in learning both how any particular algorithm ‘fits’ with your diabetes, and also what information to give it, in terms of optimising its performance for you as an individual.

I’m currently in that phase with my new pump.
