Hello all, I've decided to join here after being diagnosed as Type 2. I've been given Gliclazide 80mg for starters and may have insulin in addition. I'm quite overwhelmed and have some many questions. Hopefully can get some information to help me here.

Would you like to share a bit about your diagnosis, what your HbA1C as it will indicate how much work you will need to do.
It is quite unusual to be put straight onto gliclazide before other measures are tried like diet and metformin unless you HbA1C Is very high. Certainly mentioning insulin at this stage seems to be jumping the gun.

I've tried deit last year and my hba1c was 52, since Jan I joined a gym and have lost 3st (still more to go) my recent hba1c is 139. I've been eating Welland watching what I eat to help loose the weight.

If you have been eating well, i.e low carb, I wonder why your HbA1C has shot up so much. Has your GP any explanation?
Certainly if you were being careful with diet and doing exercise it seems odd.
It would benefit you to do some testing of your meals to see if there is any problems with what you are eating, many feel they eat healthily but it may still be too many carbs for your body to tolerate.
Have they considered that you may be Type 1 given such a big increase.

They don't know why this it has increased so much given it was 52 last year. I has cut down on carby breakfasts and meals and stuck with that. I don't think they have. I'll be seeing the nurse in just over 1 weeks time so can discuss.

I agree with LeadingLights that you may be Type 1. I would certainly ask to be tested for it. And if you are told no, then push for the tests - Type 1 can and does develop later in life, it's not just children who develop it. And if you are, you need to start the correct treatment as soon as possible.

Felinia and Leadinglights may be right about Type 1. Would you like to share what you eat and drink in a typical day? That may lead to some pointers for you discuss with the nurse in a weeks time.

Welcome to the forum @talUb80

Hope the follow-up appointment with your nurse goes well. Hope they can adjust your meds to balance with your menu and help gently bring your BG levels back towards the recommended range.
