New to group and sadly new to diabetes type2, real kick in the teeth and still going through the stage of denial, being a shift worker in a major rail station I find it hard to eat healthier. Home life different frsh cooked and a bossy wife. Given up on sugary drinks like coke and sweats. But the carbs I struggle the most with.

Taking your own food will both save on carbs and your pocket. Diet coke and other diet drinks are Ok for most people.
This link may help you and your wife with ideas for menu changes which are based on real food so more easily adoptable for the whole family. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/

Welcome to the forum @Vonchappell

Glad you have joined us 🙂

Sounds like you are off to a solid start, and have picked up the importance of all carbohydrates, not just the sweet and sugary things.

There’s a recently updated A-Z of vegetables put together by a member here who is a former hotelier and excellent cook that includes a few BG-friendly ideas for swaps and alternatives for carby staples

Depending on your starting point, you may find that only a few relatively modest adjustments to your menu are needed in addition to ditching the sweet stuff. And in time you may even come to prefer your new way of eating as tastier and more interesting - lots of members here have had that experience before you.

Have you got a little weight to lose too? Dropping those lbs can really help your metabolism - especially if it’s abdominal fat.

No not really on the overweight side of things, I'm 6 foot 1 and just under 16st. Could loose a tiny amount would like 15st.
