Hi, I'm a T2 and very uncontrolled. Diagnosed in 2009 and started insulin at the end of 2010. I had to start rapid insulin last year. Blood sugars are still not great despite Tresiba in the evening. I take 42 units prior to meals, and 112 units of Tresiba. My rapid was changed 2 weeks ago to Fiasp and it doesn't seem to work as well as Novorapid. I'm wondering whether to continue or change back to Novorapid. Due to pharmacy mix up I haven't had any Fiasp for three days and had to use Novorapid again. My sugars have come down below 10 for the first time in 2 weeks.
I've also changed to a mostly plant based diet and counting carbs. Just at a loss what to do about the rapid insulin. I had to stop Dulaglutide because of side effects and after 10 years it didn't seem to be working either. I take 2000mg of Metformin and 20mg Linagliptin as well. Hoping someone has some wise words. My specialist nurse has booked me on a DAFNE course but not sure when that will happen. Sorry for the long post!

If you preferred novorapid and aren’t getting on with fiasp just change back. It’s your diabetes and your choice how you manage it.

I use Fiasp now but used to use NovoRapid. I find that when my levels go above 10 Fiasp is like injecting water, whereas NovoRapid was slower but did actually bring me down eventually. If your levels are regularly above 10 then you may find Fiasp much less effective and you should explain to your nurse and ask to go back to NR.
I actively correct at 8 or 9 to keep my levels below 10 with Fiasp but you have to keep a very close eye on things to do this and it isn't recommended..

Welcome to the forum @Mamabat

Fiasp didn’t suit me either. I tried it for 3 months, and then switched back to NR which (while still frustratingly sluggish) gives me much better and more stable results most of the time.

I notice that you started on insulin almost immediately. I guess you’d have been mid-late 30s at the time, which is quite young and rapid for T2. i wonder if you may have been T1 or LADA all along and whether this may have contributed to the difficulties you had in managing your glucose levels over the years?

Do you have other people with T2 in your close family? Did you unintentionally lose weight before you got diabetes? Did anyone ever check for diabetes antibodies or cPeptide levels?

Glad you are on basal-bolus and carb counting now. Hopefully switching back to NR will help you bring your numbers back towards your target range.

Yes, I have been told it could be LADA or Type 1. I had symptoms from very young but wasn't tested. I suppose people weren't as aware in the 70's. Unfortunately I've not been tested for the antibodies. Something I should ask about because it may help with treatment. Tbh I don't think my pancreas has worked for years.
I do have a family history of diabetes (two aunts and an uncle on my dad's side), type 2 but all developed late in life, as in during their 60's.
I did lose a lot of weight (over 15kgs) in my late 20's but this was about a year before I got married so I thought it was wedding stress. It plateaued after about 18 months and stayed relatively stable for about 3 years. After having my son (had gestational diabetes during both pregnancies) I couldn't get back down to my pre pregnancy weight and have stayed around 10kgs heavier since then. My weight hardly changes now. I was on Dulaglutide for 10 years, Dr kept upping the dose to ostensibly help me lose weight...I lost zero! Then there was a shortage a few months back so I had to stop it, and noticed I didn't have horrible stomach pain and issues, so never went back on it.
I've changed back to Novorapid. My sugar control with Fiasp was so bad. I'm ill at the moment and even so it's better with NR. My specialist nurse said I could try Humalog if the doses get too high. I'm currently injecting about 40 - 42 units pre meals.
It's just disheartening trying to get them stable and getting nowhere.
I will try to get some blood tests done though. Just to be certain.
