Good morning @IRM1 and welcome to the forum. Feel free to ask away, lots of folks here with years of knowledge they are happy to impart.

It might be useful if you could tell the forum what blood glucose reading you have (HbA1c.) and any medication you are taking.

There is a huge amount of information on this site to read, that will help you start to understand more about the condition.

Welcome to the forum @IRM1

Glad you have found us!

We have a wealth of lived diabetes experience on the forum, with lots of different people using different combinations of weight loss and diet modifications to help them manage their diabetes.

Feel free to ask away with any questions you have, nothing will be considered too obvious or ‘silly’ 🙂

You might want to register for an account with the Learning Zone (the orange tab in the main menu) which is packed full of informative bite-sized modules. Additionally, for a more personal take, you could read through Maggie Davey’s Letter to the Newly Diagnosed which is one woman’s story of adjusting to a new T2 diagnosis.

Let us know how you get on 🙂

My reading is 5.9

Sorry to be pedantic but what are the units for that reading of 5.9 and is it definitely your HbA1C result.
That's the reading from my blood glucose finger prick, just got it yesterday was my first time in New to all this so don't know anything other than that reading, maybe it tells you well need to read the instructions.

That reading doesn't look too bad if it is a finger prick reading but those readings will vary throughout the day depending on when you take it due to all sorts of factors like what you have eaten and when, how hydrated you are, what exercise you have done so some variation is expected. When well managed your aim is to be between 4-7 mmol/l fasting or before meals and no more than 8-8.5mmol/l 2 hours post meal.
The HbA1C result is an average over the previous 3 months and is the test used for diagnosis and anything over 47mmol/mol would give a diabetes diagnosis. That would be from a blood sample taken from your arm and sent to the lab.
Note the units are important as the different tests will have different units.
