hi my name is lawrence and i'm 19, and i am insanely new to dealing with diabetes, i was diagnosed with type 1 in late september of 2023,

diabetes has limited my life a lot, i've dropped out of college due to the anxiety of being bullied over it, and the intense fear of having low glucose. i barely go outside due to the fear of getting ill.

i always had the risk of diabetes, my mother has type 1, but it's still not something you expect to hear.

Welcome to the forum @lawrenceee

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, and the impact that T1 has had on your life already. How was college going before diabetes? Do you think it is something you’ll return to? Or was the diabetes just too much to add to something that already wasn’t a great fit for you.

Is anxiety something you have been living with for a while? Do you have a diagnosis with an anxiety condition? Are you getting help and support with it?

Low glucose is something it is natural to be concerned about, but it shouldn’t limit your life. Have you been having episodes of severely low glucose? What happened? Or have you seen your Mum having scary lows, and that is what has made you worried?

Diabetes is a serious condition, but it’s also one that can usually be managed well with a few changes and adaptations - it’s something that you can learn to live well with, and it shouldn’t stop you doing things you enjoy. It shouldn‘t stop you living life to the full.

I was diagnosed at a similar age, and have run my own business, played in bands, partied, travelled, been to festivals, had a family, and my diabetes has had to fit around all of that.

Hopefully you can get support to reduce your worries.
