Hi
Newbie here, hoping to find out receipes and info to help me start my journey.
Thanks

Welcome @EmmaB1575 🙂 Are you on any meds for the diabetes? Do you know what your HbA1C was at diagnosis?

Thank you. I had appointment today with diabetic nurse, but sorry due to having cancer treatment as well I do forget things. I'm on metformin taking 2 tablets a day. They have given me a machine to check my levels. I'm on so much medication they are not sure if that's what has spiked it with the chemo. Sort of came out of that appt still a bit lost as to what to do. Trying to check carbs etc but also have high cholesterol.

Sorry to hear you have so much to contend with, and now T2 as well. What sort of numbers are you seeing when you check your levels? Random testing won't tell you anything meaningful but if you test each morning as soon as you're awake, before you eat or drink anything, that will give you a fasting test result. The target range is between 4 and 7. Also, if you test just before a meal and then 2 hours later, that will tell you how well your body handled the carbs in that meal. The targets are to be below 8.5 after 2 hours, and not more than 2 or 3 higher than before the meal.

Thanks Martin. I am going to check in the morning tomorrow as got machine this afternoon. Thanks for the help in what I should be realistically Seeing. Hoping I will get my head around it soon.

Sorry to hear you have so much to contend with but a slow and logical approach will hopefully reduce your blood glucose level. If you can find out what your HbA1C is then that will give an idea of how much you may need to modify your diet.
Many do find that a low carbohydrate approach successful. You may get some ideas from this link https://www.freshwell.co.uk/, there are some do's and don'ts as well as some meal plans to suit various tastes and budgets as well as good explanation.
If you don't need to lose weight then it is also important to make sure you have enough protein and healthy fats to replace the carbohydrates you will need to reduce. That can also help with reducing cholesterol as well.

Sorry to hear about your health issues @EmmaB1575
There’s an orange tab at the top of this page called Learning Zone, which might be helpful. But just as questions as they occur to you. It’s a lotto get used to at first, but it does get easier. Ask anything you want. Nothing is too trivial or ‘silly’.
