Hello, new to this, was told by text message just 2 weeks ago that I am Diabetic which was a shock as no one thought to tell my that I was pre-diabetic! After a visit to my GP I have apparently been pre-diabetic since 2016, anyway this was the kick I needed and I am determined to lose some weight and become more healthy. have now lost 9.5 pounds in the last 2 weeks so onwards and downwards and hopefully I can get my HbA1c back down🙂

Welcome to the forum, there have been a few people recently who were not told they were prediabetic but have managed to get to grips with changing their diet. Well done on your weight loss so far. Were you told what your HbA1C is as that will indicate how much work you will need to do, losing weight is going to help.
Have a look at this link as it has some good explanation and some meal idea to suit all budgets, it is a low carb approach that many have found successful. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
Others find a low calorie or shakes based regime to give them a kick start suits them and there are some plans on the main DUK site but whatever you choose has to be enjoyable otherwise it will not be sustainable for the long term. It has to become a new way of eating otherwise people can find themselves back at square one.

Hi it was 51 so not too bad really

Goodness, @lja what a shame that no one told you of yiur increased risk of diabetes :(

‘Prediabetes‘ is a term that has gradually come over from the US, and isn’t an officially recognised diagnosis as such, which may help to explain why that specific term may not have been used. However there are agreed criteria for being at increased risk of developing diabetes (an HbA1c between 42-47mmol/mol), so you should at least have been told that you were at risk of a diagnosis with T2 :(

At 52mmol/mol you aren’t far over the diagnostic line, so hopefully a few tweaks and changes to your menu to cut out sweet and sugary things, and reduce portions of starchy carbohydrates should help your metabolism manage your glucose levels.

Congrats on the weight loss too - that should help improve insulin sensitivity - especially if you are able to lose weight around your middle.

Good luck, and keep asking questions as they arise 🙂
