First - DON'T PANICI'm new to this - given my diagnosis yesterday. Trying to take a breath whilst getting my head around some info.
Thank you so much for your encouragement. I really want to get this under control through diet.First - DON'T PANIC
If you are an ordinary type 2 then reducing the amount of carbohydrate you eat will resolve most problems, some you might not even know about yet.
I was told I had background retinopathy at the first eye check. By the second all was normal.
My weight reduced and my waist shrank without effort, my clothes began to slide south unexpectedly.
By the second test I was no longer diabetic, at 6 months I was in normal numbers, just, and have pretty much stayed there ever since.
We do go against modern advice on diet, but the problem does seem to be the modern advice on diet.
If you are being given the opportunity to make some dietary changes then I surmise your HbA1C is not desperately high in which case it should be very possible.Thank you so much for your encouragement. I really want to get this under control through diet.
I had a blood test recently and got the results just after I wrote yesterday. My HbA1c was 43, so still just above the top end of normal, and at the age of 72 that isn't looking too bad a result.Thank you so much for your encouragement. I really want to get this under control through diet.

Hi, apologies for the delay in reply. Yes. My level is 56I had a blood test recently and got the results just after I wrote yesterday. My HbA1c was 43, so still just above the top end of normal, and at the age of 72 that isn't looking too bad a result.
Were you told your HbA1c level?
Thank youHi @JaneE , and welcome to the forum 🙂

There's also our handy 'Learning Zone' platform with video and interactive resources, which some people have found really helpful for bite-sized chunks of information about living with diabetes.

Oh, you've been told early on - so if you make some changes to what you eat you could well be back in normal numbers by Christmas - if you are an ordinary type two, which is quite likely, but some do find they are something more exotic.Hi, apologies for the delay in reply. Yes. My level is 56
I do hope so!
just had phone conversation with doc before I came away on holiday. Home tomorrow and nurse appt. next week… my birthday‘s just before Christmas, so doubly good target to aim for!
I will, thank you!
