Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Good morning all. I’ve been a type 1 now for 50 years. In my school I was the only diabetic amongst some 350 pupils. I had never heard of diabetes and couldn’t even spell it. I remember feeling so awkward and embarrassed when a teacher asked me to stand up and tell the class about my condition of which I knew very little. This was in the days when to adjust your own insulin after a high reading (this was done by peeing on stick and comparing the change of colour with a chart on the jar!) was unheard of.
I’ve always been fairly active, played lower league football most of my early adult life and I now swim open water (2 - 5k events).

Wow, diabetes management has definitly changed over time. Welcome to the forum!

Hi @BIGGLES5359 and welcome to the forum :D It's always so fascinating to hear about how much diabetes care has progressed/changed over the years! Hope you've been getting some swims in even with all this rain..

Er @Jessica DUK - rain doesn't really affect open water swimming, I don't think. They don't call off triathlons when its raining!
