Hi @Roy1235711 Roy, and welcome to the forum 🙂

Don't worry, sometimes it can be hard to know where to start and what to say, if it's any consolation the forum is usually pretty good at chiming in so I'm sure you'll get chatting to us all soon. We have plenty of threads to explore, on-topic about diabetes-related topics, and some off-topic ones too, so do feel free to have a little nosey around and see what you find.

Thanks also for sharing that you're T2. Would you mind letting us know a little more about your diabetes, such as when you were diagnosed? And, if you're comfortable, sharing some details of how you manage your condition (i.e. any dietary changes, activity levels, any medication you may take for this)? This can help us to best support you.

The forum is such a lovely community and we're always happy to help - please do ask away with any questions you may have 🙂

Hi Ciara, I got my type 2 diabetes diagnosed about a year ago. I refused metformin and did get it under control with an almost keto diet and walking 10,000 steps a day. Talking remission like readings around 4.4 to 5.5 after losing 1.5 stone and being active. Then I got bored with the food and started a few cheats such as chips and curry sauce once a week then twice etc; reading last night was 11.7. The weight I lost is back on and rain inhibited my walking, so it is time to be more disciplined as I really do think for me it is about a low carb diet and plenty of exercise.
I also like a few beers and would love to know what others do to have a night out without too many carbs.

Very easy for things to slip or circumstances change to make things more difficult but you have done it before so can again, the important thing is to find a dietary regime which is enjoyable otherwise it it not sustainable. It has to be a new way of eating for life otherwise you will find you will just go back to square one.
I found following the principals in this low carb approach successful and is now my new way of eating, I have variety and am not bored. Ok I don't normally have chips but do have curry, chilli and meals based on meat, fish, eggs, cheese with lots veg and salads. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
Beer is not so good but wine and spirits with diet mixers are a better option.

Welcome to the forum @Roy1235711

Glad you have found us 🙂

Hope you find it helpful to exchange experiences with other folks making their way through the maze of options and possibilities and finding their own personalised diabetes management system.

Good that you’ve identified that a low-ish cab approach works for you. Hopefully with a few hints and suggestions from others here you’ll be able to find an approach less ‘hard line’ than keto, that still gives you the results you are looking for.

Good to have you here @Roy1235711
Well done on making the changes before.
You know what works for you and you know that you can make the changes.
It is very easy to slip and I hope that you find the forum helpful in keeping you on track.

I tend to stick to wine and spirits as with those the alcohol involved balances any carbs.
