At risk of diabetes
Hi,

Nice to meet you all 🙂

I have been trying to get some answers from my GP recently as I'm concerned I may have type 2. It's been a uphill battle and I'm still pushing for a blood test. I'm overweight and have been for a while so in my head I'm already resigned to it.

Anyway, I've jumped on here to see what advice is available. 🙂

That's my story!

Take care all.

Welcome @RivalSon The diagnostic test for Type 2 is an HbA1C test taken from your arm, so yes you do need a GP surgery appointment. Do you have any symptoms? Remember that there are lots of people who are overweight and don’t have Type 2 so it’s not a given.

@RivalSon I never felt well eating a 'normal' diet for decades before being diagnosed type 2 in my mid 60s. I suspect that a lot of people are unable to cope with the amounts of carbohydrate in what we are expected to eat. As an additional benefit and incentive to do an Atkins style way of eating I found that I lost weight without even having to think about it.

Welcome to the forum @RivalSon

Some larger pharmacies offer a ‘diabetes check’, and Diabetes UK’s “know your risk” tool is currently getting a bit of an overhaul and upgrade, but used to have a touring roadshow version.

But as @Inka says, the standard diagnostic check for diabetes is an HbA1c, which you should be able to request from your GP surgery.

Let us know how you get on!
