Hi, and welcome to the Forum. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis but you've come to the right place if you're looking for advice on T2 management.

Did your GP tell you what your HbA1c was and were you prescribed any medication?

Yes finding what your HbA1C is will indicate how much work you have to do, if very high then you may have been prescribed some medication but if not then hopefully you will be given the opportunity to make some dietary changes for 3 months before they will check to see if that will work for you.
You mention do's and don'ts so this link may help you find an approach that would suit you. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Freshwell-Meal-Planner-Manual.pdf
What made you think you had an allergy, what symptoms did you have?

Thank you. My HbA1c is 56. Next apt in 3 months to see if I can get it down sufficiently without medication. So I have cleaned out cupboards and fridge and replenished with Yes food only - to my children’s despair 🙂

Thank you so much. I will check that out. Re symptoms, I had started waking up feeling a bit funny; the tip of my tongue felt a bit numb and my throat felt a bit tight. After I got the results, the nurse explained that diabetes can cause a drier mouth and that this might have caused the sensations in mouth/throat. No other symptoms, so I was quite surprised. But so many people get much worse health news - so onwards and upwards

Thirst, dry mouth so drinking more and therefore more loo visits are often a sign of high blood glucose.
Sometimes it is a shock to get a diagnosis but for some it can be a relief as it explains the symptoms and it is then an opportunity to tackle the issue.
Many find having a home testing blood glucose monitor not only helps them find foods with they cannot tolerate but identify those foods which they are fine with otherwise they may restrict themselves unnecessarily.

56 is not far into diabetes territory (I was double that) so you have a good chance of turning things around with lifestyle changes, mostly relating to diet. Full marks to your GP for not reaching for the prescription pad straight off. That doesn't always happen.

Welcome to the forum @RMH

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but glad you have found the forum 🙂

It can be so helpful to have a place to exchange experiences, swap tips and strategies, or simply offload about the frustrations and fickleness of living with diabetes.

If you’d like a broad ranging introduction to T2, you might want to register for the Learning Zone, which is packed with bite-sized modules you can work through at your own pace.
