Hello DBUK,

Thanks for welcoming me to the group.

I have had T2 DB for two years. At first I didn't really take it seriously. Then the wake up call came when my HBA1c was 86! Naturally, I hadn't been feeling well, tired and lethargic, stomach problems, bladder infections......the list goes on.

My DB nurse put me on Gliclazide tablets to help. It was time to invest in this disease and get to grips with it. I changed my diet completely, low carb, full fat yogurt, butter, only fruit I eat is strawberries. blueberries and raspberries. I have added nuts to my diet, and pulses and lentils.

Not one ice cream, piece of bread, grain of rice or any other stodgy carb has passed my lips and I have managed to get my blood sugar down to 55 and have lost two stone. Massive achievement! My DB nurse took me off the Gliclazide and said to continue with the Metformin. I was so happy.

I have invested in Michael Mossley's Fast 800 diet cook book and several of Giancarlo Caldessi's reverse your diabetes books. Recommended!!

All was going great until the hot weather ! Not changing my eating habits and still enjoying a low carb Mediterranean diet, I started to notice my blood sugars rise from 5's up to 7+. This is so frustrating. I've done some research an the advice is to stay hydrated. Sure, this is something I do, filling up my water bottle with a splash of lemon juice as it empties.

Apart from being "a goodie two shoes" I cannot pin point why the sudden rise. Any help would be appreciated. I really want to put diabetes into remission.
Thank, Marion

Welcome to the forum
It is disappointing when the hard work which initially was very successful has stalled. I suspect the gliclazide was giving you quite a bit of help. It may just be that your body need to learn to stand on it's own feet and will take a while to readjust.
However it is easy for carb creep to happen but also people can find the hot weather isn't helpful.
Is it your morning reading which are now over 7, it could be you are getting an element of Foot on the Floor syndrome when the liver releases glucose to give you energy for your organs to function and morning activities. Try testing when still in bed as people find that can be lower.
You may find this link helps with a few new ideas for low carb https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/

Thank you so much for getting in touch. Yes, it's the morning reading. I test around 15 minutes after getting up and before breakfast.

Thanks for the link- I will check it out now.

It could just be those 15mins of pottering around that may make a difference. maybe check for a few days still in bed and see what your reading is.

I will do thank you for your help. The Web site is great by the way. What a great read, especially about stress and higher blood sugar levels. I appreciate your help.
