Am new here
That does sound quite difficult but it sounds as if the insulin regime you have may not be suitable. If you are able to say hat insulins you are taking when and what dose then people may have some ideas as to where the problem lies or at least give you some suggestions as to what questions to ask at your appointment.I have had diabetes since 2002 after suffering a large blood clot had to go on insulin two years latter due to stress. Then 4 years ago I came off insulin and put on Metformin but I then could not take the tablets a few months back due to side effects.my glucose levels went out of control and I am under the hospital as the insulin am on is not working .so next week I have appointment at the hospital for them to change the insulin.am worried about the new one working .my diet is good .but am disable with arthritis in the spine and I can’t walk very far. Does any one else have trouble if they have Been taken off Metformin.
My diabetic nurse went through my food cupboard my diabetic Dr been through my diet with me and found nothing with my meals I eat a lot of salads as am unable to cook due to my disability.I don’t eat any sweets .I either eat sugar free meals or things that are low in sugar .I have to eat dairy free foods ,have to have lactose free milk.due some health issues.my highs have only come on since having to come off Metformin.before then I had my diabetes under control and could even have a little treat from time to time.my doctor has told me to stop keep changing my diet As it’s not very helpfu. The insulin you have been given is a basal insulin which is supposed to keep your blood glucose steady in the absence of food but does not really cope with your meals so that may be why you are experiencing such high levels.
You say your diet is good but what meals do you have?
They may be going to add a bolus insulin which you would take when you eat and that would help with the carbs in your meals.
@Lucyr, @Inka or some others may be able to add some thoughts.
I wonder if you are confusing sugar free or low sugar with foods and meals which are low carbohydrate or at least not high carbohydrate and you are actually having more carbs than your medication is allowing your body to tolerate. It is all carbohydrates which convert to glucose.
