Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi, I am new to this site, though I have been diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes for about ten years. I was interested in thie PIP thing, but as usual cannot find any help, contacts, or forms from the DWP.

I am also interested to hear if anyone else on here is experiencing good things from Ozempic? I had a very stubborn HBA1C and was put onto it about a year ago, and have lost two-and-a-half stone, and am now a daily 6. to 7.8 depending on what I eat, and NOT getting out of bed each night for a pee three or four times a night!

Hi @dick bradshaw , and welcome to the forum 🙂

I know the topic of Ozempic comes up quite regularly in the forum, so hopefully someone will chime in soon with their experience with it. Glad to hear anyway it's been beneficial for you!

Hi @dick bradshaw, and welcome to the forums. The basic info on PiP is found here, and specific info on how to claim is found here. I would strongly suggest that you get someone like Citizens Advice to help fill in the form.

It is long, tedious with a high likely-hood of going to appeal. (The latter is important. I believe that most claims go to appeal...)

Indeed! I have a brilliant Diabetic Specialist Nurse, who helped me a lot! Managing this condition is all down to your support staff and sites like this! Ozempic made me feel like a new man, back to my early 20's!!!

OK Thanks for that. I'm already on Pension Credit so may not bother?

The one you want is Attendance Allowance. You should claim, it's an extra £240, (soon to be £260,) a month.

As far as the process itself is concerned, I didn't lie on the form. On its merits, in the opinion of the professionals who are helping me, I have an excellent chance. I mean, despite the embarrassment factor, I managed to tick all the boxes. However, based on the DWP's own figures, I should still expect to have to appeal.

Welcome to the forum @dick bradshaw

Glad to hear Ozempic has been working so well for you!

There's some information about diabetes and benefits here:

We have had a few threads about claiming PIP, and other benefits over the years, and it seems that it is not a straightforward process. You have to be able to demonstrate significant impairment to your ability to carry out basic tasks, and it seems that a degree of persistence is required.

This is a thread from a while back

And also this more recent (and much shorter) thread!

Additionally, I just remembered, for you as a pensioner, the people you really want to get help with Attendance Allowance from is Age UK. When I was researching it, I found their website to be the most comprehensive, and, if I hadn't already had a support worker, I would probably have asked them for help.

Carers UK is also good for how to claim all the various state benefits that might be available.
