Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi,

I’m a 44 yo male newly diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes. Very confused about everything and struggling to understand diet restrictions etc. Does anyone have any other good websites or information points that can help?? Appreciate any support or navigation that anyone can provide.

Welcome to the forum.
What you might need to be doing depends on a number of things, where you are in the diabetes zone, anything over 47mmol/mol will have given you a diabetes diagnosis but how high it is will indicate how much work is needed. Also have you been prescribed any medication as that may make a difference or are you being given the opportunity by lifestyle changes. Losing weight if you need to will also help.
The most important thing is making some change to your diet bu reducing carbohydrates as it is ALL carbohydrates not just 'sugar' that convert to glucose.
Have a look at this link as it has a good explanation and some do's and don'ts as well as some meal ideas. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/
This promotes a low carb approach but some find a low calorie or shakes based regime will give them a kick start. But whatever you choose has to be enjoyable and sustainable long term.

Welcome to the forum @jamiebiddulph

You might find there are some handy pointers in the Learning Zone or the Enjoy Food section of the main Diabetes UK website

What you’ll quickly discover exchanging experiences with others here, is that there’s no ’one size fits all’ approach to food that works (or appeals!) to everyone. Unique mixes of genetic make-up, metabolisms, sizes, shapes, predispositions, and wants and desires mean that each person needs to tweak and tailor their own approach from the ranges of approaches and possibilities to find a system that works for you 🙂

Here are some ideas to try out

Hi @jamiebiddulph and welcome to the forum 🙂

A new diagnosis can be confusing so don't worry if it takes a bit of time for it all to start making a bit more sense. The forum is a great place to ask questions, so do ask away

The websites that everyone has suggested are amazing and would definitely recommend checking them out but if you would prefer to speak to someone feel free to give our helpline a call at 0345 123 2399. The helpline is open Mon-Fri between 9 am-6 pm
