Hi Gary and welcome to he forum.

Welcome along Gary….I now can’t quite imagine life without a
Libre.

Welcome Gary! I have also just started with FreeStyle Libre 2. Off to a rocky start unfortunately with only the first 4 days working then the sensor started reading (incorrectly) lower and lower until eventually failing at day 8. Now waiting for a replacement sensor from Abbott or my prescription from the GP whichever comes first!

However, despite this, I really loved the initial working period and can’t wait to get going again. The charts and info you get are brilliant and really show what is happening throughout the day rather than just getting the odd finger prick test before meals, etc. I have a hospital appointment on Monday so for once there will be some good data to discuss with them to make some sensible tweaks to the insulin.

Good luck with your journey, hopefully it will help you too!

Hi thank u for replying l didn't realise u can get a replacement from Abbott as my first sensor has just stopped working for some reason only been on for 5 days ? How do l get a replacement?
Thank you in advance

Gary

Hi Gary, just call them on 0800 170 11 77 Monday to Friday between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM, Saturday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. As mine was consistently reading lower i gave them 3 readings comparing against BG (allowing for the lag between BG and ISF, such as waking or a period when BG was stable between meals for example). They took my details and said they will send out a free replacement within 5 to 7 working days. There is a form on their website https://www.freestylelibre.co.uk/libre/help/sensor-support-form.html to report things like error messages or sensors falling off. But for other issues (such as mine) they ask you to call them.

I’ve heard that lots of people have called and got replacements without any issues.

Sorry to hear your sensor failed after 5 days. I just hope these are rare issues and things get better! Maybe some of the initial trial sensors are from a bad batch?

It is good you have found something useful already, there are some incredibly knowledgeable people here who have years of experience at managing their diabetes and are all too willing to answer your questions and give you any hints to get better management

You’re very welcome Gary! I think we are all learning every day, but as you say, it is great to find people in similar positions to us and share our experiences. That’s why I’ve joined now after over 20 years, there are times when I get so fed up that I can’t just eat something without all the hassle of testing blood, calculating carbs and how much insulin, etc.! But then the alternative is not good so I know it’s important to keep plodding on! At least the Libre 2 promises to simplify life quite a bit!

Welcome to the forum @Gary j
Very pleased that you have found us and that you have already found it useful.
Abbott have always been very helpful on the phone and replaced any faulty sensors.

I have learnt most of what I know from others on here, so ask any questions that arise. Nothing is considered silly on here, and with the rapid changes in the tech available to us it is great to be able to share experiences with others who are managing this day to day.

I look forward to hearing more from you.
