Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi all,

Just wanted to say a quick hello as I am new to the forum.

My name is Dave, I’m 43 years old and was diagnosed with type 1 at the age of 9.

My reason for wanting to join was to ask all members if they have ever suffered any discrimination due to their condition?

Good morning @delboy_toon78
Glad that you have found the forum, and good to have you years of experience on here.

Have you personally experienced some discrimination. I am aware of people on here that have had difficulties in their workplace.

I was diagnosed just over 14 years ago, and in the jobs that I had after that I received excellent support. They made reasonable adjustments to allow me to manage my diabetes effectively. More widely there have been the odd irritating comments but that is generally from a lack of knowledge, and I realise that I knew nothing about all that is involved with Diabetes until my own diagnosis.

Welcome to the forum @delboy_toon78

I am lucky in that my diagnosis at 21 has not prevented me from doing anything I have wanted to, and I am not aware of having been subject to any discrimination because of it.

If anything I think it has probably brought me opportunities?

I have read posts from forum members who have had difficulties with work though, so I am aware it can happen in some roles.
