Hello.

I’ve been told I’ve now got the type 2 diabetes. I’m so insecure and anxious. I’ve
Cancelled appointments for blood tests and the diabetic nurses. I’ve now started getting sore and itchy in a certain area. Blood tests booked for the morning now. I’m going to get on top of this. Anyone else had the itchy and what method of relief do you use. ❤️

Hi there @Dawniebabe
Good luck in getting on top of diabetes, it took me to long to get on top diabetes, but found some great advice & support to help me on this forum.

once you’ve had your blood test tomorrow you will soon know your Hba1c
and then before long will understand what changes you will need to make

Hi Dawniebabe, welcome to the forum.

Glad to hear that you've been brave and are getting your blood tests done. I know it's scary but the more you know, the better you can look after yourself and get on with living as full a life as possible.

We've got lots of info on the forum and on our main site so do have a look around and let us know if you have any questions.

The itchiness and soreness is most likely to be the result of high blood glucose causing an UTI or fungal infection so you should mention it to your doctor or diabetic nurse, or the pharmacist may be able to recommend something to alleviate it but the sooner you get your blood test results the better and then once you get your diagnosis confirmed you can address the lifestyle changes, primarily dietary changes.

Hi Dawn,

I am new here too with a similar situation and can relate to the anxiety, happy to support each other along the way. This site looks a good place for chat and support. We can share our journey with each other along the way. Hopefully in time we will feel less anxious. Well done on going for your blood tests, I can relate to your feelings as was exactly the same, made worse by getting a text saying they were all normal and then 10 days later the doctor called me in to say that was in correct so here I am now 🙂

Hi Dawn

I am new here too. How are you managing? I am looking for people to share tips with, and recipes 🙂

The itchy/sore sounds exactly like thrush to me - a fungal infection that is mega common with untreated or not sufficiently treated, diabetes of all types. When blood glucose is far too high, the body gets rid of what it can via the kidneys and into the bladder, so the urine you wee out is actually sweet - so this enables fungal infections to take hold and thrive.

Thing is you need to get that treated asap as well as the diabetes, because otherwise you won't knock it on the head - and bombarding your kidneys with high glucose over a long period can cause damage to them, so it ain't a good idea to ignore it!

Thank you for your advice. Very grateful
I was at the Dr today. I’m using canistan now. Will I eventually be on meds for the diabetes? Are you on any ?

The anxiety has prevented me from getting help sooner. But reading about the sore and inching underneath I knew I had to push myself. My daughters are very supportive too. But if I can get support from people going thru it too will help. We can definitely be there for each other

I hope the other issues will heal when we get our sugar level under control. Thrush can be really irritating, had it a few times when I was pregnant (but touch wood not since). I have developed sores with thick skin/scabs on top they dont heal and are unsightly but in a way I am grateful as the dermatologist got bloods done to see if it was a vitamin deficiency and this came back! My sores are still there but this is just day 3 of eating low sugar, healthy food, I am assuming it take time for the sugar levels to recover.

I also have a suspected fatty liver. I dont drink alcohol so this looks likely to be connected to the diabetes too. I am having a liver scan and also am attending a lipids clinic for my high cholesterol for genetic testing as both my parents (who were slim and healthy) had high cholesterol not caused by diet. My dad had Statins but my mum didn't.

I found making a planner of my meals and a schedule for my exercise helped me so far, my sons fiance bought me a little white board meal planner with magnetic pen. It has the days of the week on it so I have written what I am planning eating each day to keep myself organised. I dont know if you are the same but a lot of bad food choices are to do with it being easier to grab a sandwich than look for a low carb, low sugar, low fat alternative. My local shop literally only sells tinned food and packet food, a small freezer full of ready meals but no fruit, veg or healthy carbs so I have to go to my larger supermarket. As a non driver this caused an issue because although walking is good exercise, there is only so much I can carry for 2 miles by foot 🙂

How is your day going so far?

Do you have a local company who will deliver veg boxes.
Can you do an online order from the supermarket, I found Iceland or Morrisons quite good when we were not going to the shops during lockdown. If you do Amazon prime they seem to be linked to Morrisons Fresh for deliveries.

Have you had any cream for your 'spots', I had a rash on my leg which I think was an allergy to the dressing they used after knee surgery and had some hydrocortisone/fusidic acid cream from the GP which took about 2 weeks to clear it up.

My day was lovely. I live with my daughter and son in law. I’m sat up now watching a film. Well I didn’t hear tonight about my bloods so not an emergency. Just want to get started with it. I’ll do what you are doing. I’ll make a journal too if my journey. Xx

I've got to say this to anyone that needs to hear it - please don't expect what happens to work for someone else, to necessarily work for you. Of course it might but don't be upset if it doesn't. Every single person alive on earth is different! So some things do and others don't.

And @Dawniebabe - I should hope I am on medication - I have Type 1 diabetes for which one needs to inject insulin since our bodies have entirely stopped producing it by itself - otherwise we'd die!
