Hi my names Emma , I’m so confused with all the info I’ve been trying to get through im type 2 with medication im 43. Can anyone tell me how many carbs I can have a day? Thanks emma

Hi @emmii and welcome to the forum. Many of us here are on a very low carb diet which (if I remember correctly!) is under 130g per day. Don't try and separate out the sugar carbs, it is the total carbs you need to be counting.
As we are all different, we learn what we can and can't tolerate. For example some people can manage a small amount of bread but not potatoes. It's a very individual thing. If you buy a monitor you can test yourself before you eat, and then 2 hours after at which point your mmol should have gone up 2 or 3 units. If it's more then it's likely that what you ate isn't tolerated very well.
I kept a food diary as well, so I could see how many carbs I was having, how much weight I'd lost and what my blood sugars were. By now, unless I'm experimenting with something new, I know just what my body can take.
Word of warning, a gradual reduction of carbs is recommended to avoid complications with your eyes.

Aw thanks so much for your help, that’s exactly what I wanted to know. They’ve put me on blood pressure medication and cholesterol medication also. It’s scared me I just want to eat the right things so I’m doing all I can to help myself x

Hi emmii, welcome to the forum.

Some great advice above! On of the most important things to remember is the fact that everyone is different so the food diary is a great opportunity to figure one what works for you.

We've got some helpful info on our main site regarding testing and what to eat so do have a look and let us know if we can help in any way.
