Hi There,

newly diagnosed Type 2 person here. And wow, this is a whole nw ball game isn't it. 😱 Getting to grips with it the best way i can, and i've never eaten so heathily as i have over the last few weeks. The BSL's are proving a little stubborn to get down and what Metformin does to your gas levels is something to behold! :D

Still, i'm not going to let this thing overly freak me out and i'm going to take each step at a time.

Really pleased to find there is a forum such as this for info/chat and all the good stuff like that. 😎

Hi Madridista and a warm welcome to the forum, pleased you have found us, how long have you been diagnosed

Hiya 🙂 I am also new, and only started meds this week...thankgod it doesn't seem to be upsetting my belly too much!

It does feel like a massive minefield out there...so much to learn and take on board! they are a lovely bumch here, and make you feel very welcome 🙂

Since the end of April. I've had a problem with pins and needles in my left hand for quite a while (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome), which got worse over the last couple months. My doctor said there are other things that can cause this (Diabetes, Thyroid problems etc) so she sent me off for blood tests.

The day after they took my bloods, she called me, and said the test results were back already. My initial reaction was Strewth!!, that was quick, and she said 'well, when they find something like this, they usually call to let the GP know as soon as they can'.

It was then that she told me i was Type 2 Diabetic. :D

Yes, one a day till next tues then increase to 2 a day. touch wood * i haven't had any of the gastric side effects I have seen in others and read about...if anything, I have gone the other way!
My GP is referring me to the hosp as she wants me on byetta aswell...read good things about it so I am hopeful, and eager to get started...i just want to feel well again!

Did the GP tell you what your BS was? Mine was 13.3 on the fasting test, but I am regularly recording about 20 now..reached 27.7 the other night..don't want to go back there again, i felt awful!

Funny you mention pins and needles...the other day, my left hand was all tingly down the side and in 2 fingers....

I started on 1 a day, then went up to 3 a day a week later. They are going to up it again at the end of May to 2, twice day. The good lord only knows what THAT will do the the gas levels!!

My BS when tested at the hospotal was 22. My all time high is 23.4 and i have had a low of 9.9 on Thursday evening this week, but it went back up to 14 two hours after dinner. I'm sure this BG Star meter is making it up as it goes along!! :D

The surprising thing about all this, is that i don't really physically feel any different now to how i have felt over the last year or so. Apart from a half-dead left hand!! :D

My highest has been 27.7...and i felt pretty cack I can tell ya!
i think I am right in saying side effects to settle down eventually....I know with other meds I have taken, they do.

How do you find the BG Star? I have heard it's hard to get the strips for that which is why i haven't invested in one yet, I do however use the softward on my iPhone...makes pretty little graphs...altho it's pretty scary when you go off the scale!!

The BG Star is pretty good. My local Boots can get the strips without any problems and i had my first scrip filled out last week...... 100 strips and 100 stabbers (as i call them!!) You should be given a BG meter of some kind free of charge....... i was.

One bonus is that i get free scrips now and my NHS exemption card has arrived already!! :D
