Welcome @Bootsy 🙂 How long have you had Type 2?
Hello @Inka , over 20 years now. The last few years I seemed to have it under control but the last couple of years my Hba1c level has crept up. I know this is because of my own lack of control! So I have decided to join Diabetes UK to help me get back in control.

Welcome from me, @Bootsy, also. I'm a relative newcomer myself with a mere 4 yrs at this D malarkey and as an insulin dependent T3c I make no claim to understanding much about T2. But I can tell you this Forum is a pretty good place to be, in these times of the increased frailty of the NHS and inability to get much sense or help out of GP Surgeries. There is a huge wealth of lived experience with the members here and an amazing willingness to share knowledge in a remarkably comfortable style.

Hi and welcome from me too.

Would you like to tell us a bit about how you manage your diabetes? Is it through diet and exercise or do you also have medication and if so which one(s). Are you comfortable sharing your current HbA1c result? The more info you can share with us, the more people can relate to your individual circumstances and suggest appropriate things which might help.

Hello,
New member from Portsmouth.
Hello and welcome.
We used to live half way down Locksway road, near the Old House at Home pub, but moved to Poole over 40 years ago now.
I avoid grain, potatoes, low fat versions of things and seed oils as I find keeping them out is more beneficial than eating small amounts.

Welcome to the forum @Bootsy

Glad you have joined us!

Great to hear you’ve decided to give your diabetes a bit of a reset. It can be really helpful every so often to review where you are, take stock, see where things have drifted a little, and experiment with some new approaches. 🙂

We have lots of different folks here all finding their own individual ‘diabetes toolkit’ of strategies, menu, meds, and approaches that work for them.

Hello,
New member from Portsmouth.
Welcome to you @Bootsy 🙂

Good luck with everything 🙂

As a new member myself, it can be quite daunting to suddenly have all this advice and information thrust upon you........

I am trying to be open-minded and receptive to new ideas and thoughts.

Obviously, just because someone says something has worked for them, it might not work for you; or you might not even be interested in trying it.

Also..... Share as much or as little as you want.

I know people want to help you by understanding your current readings/medication/diet/exercise/doctor's advice and whatnot — but it's really up to you, what you feel comfortable sharing.

Cheers. Good luck. I hope you find it useful being part of the forum 😎

Thank you for the welcome @Proud to be erratic !

Hi @rebrascora , Thanks for the welcome. Not happy with my HbA1c at 55 as I was managing to keep it just under 50. Things have changed with me now being retired. At work I was always walking between the office and shop floor and liaising with other departments so could easily rack up 10,000 steps on many days. As soon as the weather settles I will be walking along the sea front very often!!!

Thanks for the welcome @Drummer. Often pop down Locksway to get to the Thatched House and watch the tide. I tend to avoid the same things though I do have the occasional potato in some variety. I do follow Michael Mosley's books.

Thank you @everydayupsanddowns . Yes, I think that is exactly what I need at the moment - a reset. This is probably the best place to start!

That's what did it for me, retiring as I was not doing the amount of walking and that piece of cake with the afternoon cuppa whereas at work I often didn't even have time for lunch.
Anyway managed to pull it back by low carb and trying to do more walking until things were disrupted by a silly accident and knee surgery.
But still at normal HbA1C 3 years on by sticking to my new way of low carb eating.

Welcome to the Forum. I can understand what people say about exercise but I think the food we eat is the most important and everyone is different when it comes to that sometimes.

I go a couple of walks a day, do Tai Chi once a week. I go to a Barn Dance but that is only once a month. I use public transport where possible which gives me an opportunity to get off a stop early and walk more. Gone are my high impact aerobics days, the gym bores me stiff but I am looking for yoga and pilates classes.
