Hi, diagnosed with type 2 a few weeks ago, overwhelmed with information, overwhelmed with conflicting information, joining the forum at Christmas and finding it hard.

Hi Big Jchn, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. There is so much information around it can be hard finding your way through it to the sensible stuff. Many of our members have found that these straightforward sources have been very helpful, so at the risk of heaping more on you, I'd recommend having a look at them: Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter, and the excellent Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker.

Have you been given any medication for your diabetes? There are lots of friendly, experienced people here who will be happy to help out with any questions you may have - no question is considered 'silly', so whatever is troubling you, please let us know. Diabetes is a serious condition, but the good news is that it can be controlled well with the right knowledge and a bit of effort. As you get to grips with it, you may even find that you feel happier and healthier than you did before you were diagnosed (truly!) So, whilst you may have some upheaval in your life, hopefully it will lead to a better life for you as 2015 progresses 🙂 I look forward to hearing more from you 🙂

Welcome to the forum Big Jchn 🙂

Hi and welcome to the forum - i was diagnosed 6 weeks ago and i know exactly how you are feeling - the guys and gals here are friendly and are happy and eager to help with any questions you may have. i can attest to that.I have spent the last 6 weeks reading up on diabetes and everything does seem to contradict itself for sure.Hope you can still manage to have a decent christmas even though you will have a lot on your mind. Good luck and ask away lol.

Hi Big Jchn
Welcome to the forum, I was diagnosed in January this year and I know how you're feeling, there is a lot of information out there and a lot conflicts. I've found in the last twelve months that much of what is said and reported is a best guess, because nobody really categorically knows the answers. Christmas is hard work food wise so don't put yourself under too much pressure and enjoy, january is just around the corner and a great time for a new start 🙂

Hello Jchn and welcome.🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. It can seem overwhelming at first, but it does get better, especially if you do your own research and ask lots of questions. Good luck. 😱🙂

Welcome to the forum. I was lucky when diagnosed because I was given a meter and shown how to use it. I was also enrolled on a course (diabetes Xpert but others may be available in your area). Regarding conflicting information, personally, I looked at how such information affected ME and acted accordingly. But, as I implied, I was also given the tools to judge that information. I hope your GP is one of the enlightened ones.

Good luck,

Andy 🙂

Hello John. It is so scary at first but you have found the right place for good information and help. Unfortunately I did not get support from my GP who simply painted a very frightening picture and said I had to take medication and would get complications in due course. Then I came here and two and a bit years on I do not take medication and am really well. There are some very wise people here who will help you. It takes time but you will get in control but I think that testing is really important and also to take control of how many carbs you eat. Take care. 🙂
