Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi, my name is Mary and i have had type one diabetes for over 24 years. My younger brother also has type one although this is a recent diagnosis. I take Lanctus as my long acting insulin and Humalog as my short acting. I work full time as a staff nurse and am proud to say have never had a day off sick in my life! I have the attitude that you have a simple choice...sink or swim..i choose the latter! In general i maintain good control, but its not easy and takes hard work and determination..i eat low carb and exercise daily(most of the time), although i do also enjoy pizza and beer! Through my job i see on a daily basis things much worse than type one, and i am gratefull that its all that i have, and i can, for the moment, deal with it. Although recently diagnosed, my brother has embraced the same attitude and im so proud of how he is coping! So glad to find this forum and look forward to being a part of it......🙂

Hello Little Mermaid and welcome everybody is friendly on here. And I personally find it very helpful to talk to people.

Hi Mary and welcome to the forum. What a great attitude you have, diabetes doesn't have to mean the end of the world is nigh and you're so right that there is far worse one can be having to deal with. I have a similair attitude as do many on here, but it's always nice to have somewhere to come and have a moan when things do get on top of you or to get advice when you need it or give advice when those new to D need assurance.

I hope you enjoy the forum. 🙂

Hi Mary!

I would have said exactly what Robofski just said so I won't repeat it LOL

I concur with your attitude too but have to say, please don't compare it to swimming - I still can't actually do that specific thing ever so well, but since I was about 9 at least, I've always known I can stay afloat!!

Welcome to the forum Mary 🙂
