You are better off sticking to a meat curry if you are not vegetarian rather than lentils and chick peas as both of those are quite high in carbs.
It is not just the sugar in the sauce with baked beans (you can get no added sugar variety) but the carbs in the beans themselves and then there is the temptation to have them on toast so you end up with a triple whammy of carbs.... toast, sauce and the beans themselves.... yes lots of fibre especially if you use wholemeal bread for the toast but lots of carbs too. They are off my menu completely now.
Today I had fillet steak with a big plate of ratatouille
Thank you,

That makes sense.

I need to careful with too much fat though as I suffer from high cholesterol.

But I realise that Carbs are by far the biggest issue and my favourite comfort food, but like you suggest there are other ways.

One bit of good news is that I am good at Tea time, usually sticking to chicken, tuna, salmon and the occasional steak all with salad.

My weakness comes from lunchtime as I do enjoy a saladnor sandwich and prefer Indian food, usually something that is hot and spicy.

I am off Tesco now , to see if I can try out almond flour and see if I can make chapati with this.

I think any change needs to be managed in a way that is long term, so I will start with the substitutes.

Hi Newbie777, there is a recipe in The Diabetes Weight-loss Cookbook by Katie & Giancarlo Caldesi for an alternative to pilao rice made with cauliflower which is flavoured with cumin seeds, cloves, cardamom pods, bay leaves and a small cinnamon stick. It is full of flavour and does make a good, low carb accompaniment to a curry.

Congratulations on your weight loss. 🙂

Thank you for your kind words and advice.

That is an idea that I really like, I have the cauliflower and the spices, so need to try it asap.

Your idea helps with having a curry at lunchtime, which I know I can stick to most days and it is my most important meal of the day.

Unfortunately, I worked out that chick pea and lentil curry are a bit high on the carb side, but am good with meat curries.

Yes there's protein in leguminous veg BUT also rather a lot of carb too.

Blood cholesterol levels are not impacted by whatever fat we eat - but our weight is! Reducing the amount of carb we eat reduces our cholesterol as well as the blood glucose - a very welcome side effect of it for most people!

Hello,

My name is Niaz, I am 49 years old, Asian Male, I live in Manchester.

I have type 2 Diabetes which I have had for about 6 years ( known) and possibly a lot longer unknown.

Just wanted to say hello and thank you for any help or support provided.

Kind regards

Niaz
Hi Niaz!
I've tried a few recipes from Headbangers kitchen on youtube, some really simple basic recipes that are really tasty. I'm making a ghoulash on tomorrow in the slow cooker and plan on having that for lunch throughout the week. I don't miss the rice with my curry at all which is fortunate. If I make spaghetti bolognese for the family I just have the meat and sauce and don't have the pasta, that way I don't really feel like I'm missing out. Like you said it needs to be something that you can stick to long term.
Good luck with everything, some great advice and support on here.

Oh wow, did not know or think of it like that.

I could do with losing some weight, a stone (or a bit more), so I now know that by doing so, how much more of a benefit that will be.

Thank you.
